The number of jobless people increased by 3,300 to 203,000 during the period from April to June, while the number of underemployed dropped by 300 to 84,900.
The increase in unemployment was mainly in the arts, entertainment, wholesale and leisure service sectors, while the decline in underemployment was in warehousing and support services for the transportation industry.
During the period from April to June, the total number of unemployed declined by 8,700 to 3.5 million, while the labor force decreased by 5,500 to 3.7 million.
Hong Kong's unemployment has eased, although the business situation is still tough, said Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, secretary of Labour and Welfare Bureau. He added that improved foreign and domestic trade and government relief measures will reduce unemployment.
